New look, new features
The new PC site has a fresh new interface, simplified navigation, clean layout focusing on the content, and a more consistent look across our other platforms like the mobile site, the touchphone site, BlackBerry app and Android app. It also has great new features like quick post, stream filters, hot tags, hovercards, people around you, nearby deals, and most interestingly Stamps.

Koprol, Indonesia’s first location-based social networking site (LBS) marked yet another milestone by rolling out its latest suite of features developed for the PC. The new Yahoo! Koprol PC interface includes the enhanced features and functionalities available on mobile and brings these with a consistent look across both mobile and PC platforms to provide users with a seamless experience wherever they are. Users can log in to the existing Koprol URL (http://www.koprol.com) and access the newly transformed site which now has a neater look, simple navigation, intuitive layout and a multitude of user-friendly features that allow for easy conversations.

Recent features include ‘Interesting Streams’ for social commenting, ‘Onboarding’ for easy check-ins, ‘People Finder’ to connect with people in the vicinity and the ‘Hovercard’ which enables users to find the profile information of another user’s “avatar” without having to visit individual profile pages. Popular features which are already available on the mobile like ‘Hot Tags’ which consolidate content on popular topics or events to reflect the collective mood, ‘Koprol Stamp’ feature which serves as a fun element and rewards users for being social with other Koprol users, are all available on the PC. Like we explained, everyone will sign into Koprol using a Yahoo! ID.

For old skool Koprollers, we require you to connect your Koprol account to a Yahoo! ID. This is a very simple and painless login merge process that you only need to do one time. To show how easy it is, here's a step-by-step guide:

1. Open koprol.com

Go to koprol.com and click Sign In. You can do this on mobile too, but without support for Facebook, Google, Twitter login.

2. Sign in to Yahoo!

Enter your Yahoo! ID and password. If you don't have one, you can make one there. You can also sign in to Yahoo! with Facebook or Google account.

3. Login to your Koprol Account

Verify your Koprol ID by logging in like you used to, whether by password or with Facebook, Google, Twitter. If you forgot your password, we'll send a link to merge to the email you registered to Koprol.

4. Confirm Merge

All set for merge. Check to make sure it's the Yahoo! ID you want to connect to your Koprol account, then click 'Merge Now!'

On May 5th 2011, we will change the way you log into Koprol.

You won't need to use your Koprol password anymore, just use your Yahoo! ID to access Koprol's full site, mobile site, and mobile apps. You can also sign in with Facebook or Google when accessing Koprol's full site.

This is an exciting change that provides you with easier login, one less password to remember, better security, and opens the door to more cool Yahoo! features on Koprol.

For this change, we require you to do a quick one-time login merge process to connect your Koprol account to your Yahoo! ID, anytime starting May 5th 2011.

This merge will not affect your Koprol profile at all. You will still use the same screen name and profile URL. You will still receive notifications on the email address you registered to Koprol. This will only change the way you log in to Koprol.

By the way, you won't even need to do this login merge process at all, if you have connected your Koprol account with a Yahoo! ID. To connect now: go to Sharing Settings on your computer and click ‘Connect with a Yahoo! ID’.

Pada 5 Mei 2011, kami akan melakukan perubahan pada alur/proses login Koprol. Hanya dengan menggunakan Yahoo! ID, Anda bisa mengakses full site Koprol, mobile site, dan mobile apps. Tidak hanya itu, Anda juga bisa login dengan menggunakan akun Facebook dan Google saat mengakses full site Koprol. Dengan ini, satu kombinasi username dan password bisa Anda hilangkan dari catatan. Bagaimana caranya? Sangat mudah, Anda hanya perlu melakukan sebuah proses penggabungan login (login merge) yang kami jamin tidak akan menyita banyak waktu Anda. Proses ini dapat dilakukan kapanpun, dimulai pada tanggal 5 Mei 2011.

Yahoo! Koprol has been constantly rolling out new features lately. Here are some highlights of what you can do now:

1. Post geotagged photos to Flickr
2. Add & approve new places with more confidence
3. Put Koprol widgets on your blog
4. Get notified when your friend is nearby

Post geotagged photos to Flickr

Koprol hearts Flickr! Now you can connect to your Flickr account and every photo you post on Koprol will be posted on Flickr too. What’s cool is that we will geotag every photo based on your check-in. Flickrites, more reason to Koprol!

To activate, go to Settings > Sharing and click the Flickr button, and then Authorize at Flickr. Make sure you set your default geo privacy setting according to your liking.

Add & approve new places with more confidence

More power to you when adding places. First, you can add an optional photo to help convince the Kurators. Secondly, if somehow you get rejected the first time, now you have the chance to improve the details and resubmit. Believe in second chances

Kurators, you might notice this since last week. Yup, we totally revamped the verification page with a nice new flow. First you just need to decide whether the new place exists and not duplicate. Then only after that you can optionally fix the details. We hope this ensures better filtering of new places, but more importantly it’s now easier and faster for you to decide and get points!

Also, there are more points reward done in the background. You now win points when you get your correction and reports approved. We'll give out more details about the points system later.

Put Koprol widgets on your blog

Bloggers, pimp your blog by showing off Koprol streams using our brand new Widgets! It’s very easy to set up if you ever used one. We have two types of widget: Profile Widget that shows your recent posts, and Place Widget that shows everyone’s posts from a specific place like a mall or a neighborhood. That means if you own a business, you can show live posts from your store on your website!

To get the code, go to koprol.com/widgets to choose a widget, optionally set the colors and preferences, then cut and paste to your web page.

Get notified when your friend is nearby

Ping! This is a cool feature for you push-mail users. Get an email when someone you follow checks in nearby. The default is off, so you have to manually choose which people you want to track. You can only track people you follow. So go follow that special someone and be alerted when he or she is close

To activate, go to Friends list on your PC and check ‘Ping’ for people you want to track.

One of the best features of Koprol is the place reviews. They provide info about what’s good or bad about places, they come from yourselves, and they help everyone find good places to visit. It’s the most powerful feature to make Koprol useful for your friends and even more people, if we keep using it well.

However, they’re not so useful for users if they are filled with spam, including duplicate reports. Reviews are not the place to report place data errors. That is ruining the usefulness of reviews. We’d like to remind you that we are committed to fight spam as always. We just need you to report in the correct way.

Bad data? Use our report tool
We already have tools to report errors in place data. Just go to the place page and click ‘Report this place’ where you can choose from 3 types of report:

• Report as Closed: for places that once existed but is now closed
• Report as Bogus: for places that doesn’t exist or not a real place
• Report as Duplicate: for places that are already listed before in Koprol

And if you want to correct an address, map location, or even the spelling of the place name, simply click ‘Edit details’ in the place page, and suggest a correction.

Please just use these report tools, and rest assured our hard-working team is processing every single report. There are so many reports, and that’s where we need your patience. But just keep reporting. You will earn points every time we approve a report or correction.

Say no to spam
To give you better experience on Koprol, we will not tolerate anyone who spam the reviews. We are ready to remove the spam, deduct points from the spammer, demote the spammer from Kurator, or suspend the spammer’s Koprol account.

Keep Koprol clean and useful. Report using proper tool. Don't spam.

And by the way… Kurators! Last night we launched a new kurator verification page. It has a new flow.

4 Steps in verifying a new place

1. Check Bogus: Does the place exist? If you don’t know, just skip it!
2. Check Duplicate: use our search tool to find possible duplicates
3. Check Details: add more info, and fix the spelling
4. Check Map: drag the map to the correct place.. and you’re set!

1. Cek Bogus: Apakah tempat itu benar-benar ada? Jika ragu, skip!
2. Cek Duplikat: gunakan alat pencari untuk mencari bila tempat tersebut sudah terdaftar sebelumnya di Koprol.
3. Cek Detil: tambahkan info, perbaiki ejaan
4. Cek Peta: benahi lokasi pada peta jika Anda merasa lokasi yang tertunjuk pada peta salah atau kurang tepat.

Bump a post by clicking the up-arrow bump icon or link, then all your friends and followers can see that interesting thread and directly jump into the comments.

Koprol uses Geolocation API to help you find nearest places from your browser

This is an awesome new feature for those who browse Koprol from PC, iPhone, iPod, iPad, or Android. Now you don't need to type your place, just let Koprol find places nearest to your physical location.

To use this, when your browser says Koprol would like to use your location, simply click 'Allow' or 'Share Location'. The next time you click 'Check-in' to change place, Koprol can list nearby places accurately!

Note: Koprol never tracks your physical location, we only know places you voluntarily check in to. For more, read Yahoo! Privacy Policy.

Since we introduced Kurator almost 4 months ago, our user-generated places system has been getting filled with well-curated data. Also it has been continually improved based on our plans and your suggestions.

We just released another update that improves the process of adding and verifying new places and awarding points to users. To get you updated on the many improvements, here is a simple FAQ.

Who can add places?
Any user can – Yup, no more barriers for new users. Now anyone can add, and it all goes to the Kurators for verification.

How do I add new cities and regions?
Use the searchbox to find any city or region in the world. If it’s not yet on Koprol, you can find it under ‘Add a place from Yahoo! Geo’. Just click ‘Add’ and it will immediately be active on Koprol without needing verification from Kurators.

How do I add new places that are not in Yahoo! Geo?
Use the searchbox to find a specific place, like a building, restaurant or shop. If it’s not yet on Koprol, you can click ‘Add New Place’ on the bottom of the page. You are required to fill in the name, category and address. Optionally you can fill all fields for better chance to get approval.

Where are the ‘parent place’?
Aha, old school user eh? We don’t use parent places anymore. All venues are now put directly under the city level. Just make sure you point correctly on the map.

How does a new place gets live?
After added by a creator, each place gets verified by a few eligible Kurators. Each Kurator will either edit and approve the entry, or reject if it’s a duplicate or bogus. If more Kurators approve of a new place, it will be sent back to the creator for final approval. If more Kurators reject, it gets dumped.

The creator gets to approve again?
Yes, after going through edits by the Kurators, each place is shown to the creator for final approval. If the edits are correct, the creator can approve and the place immediately gets live. If the edits are bad, the creator can reject and resubmit.

Can I verify on mobile?
No. Kurators can only verify new places on the full site.

How do I become a Kurator?
You have to get a certain amount of points. You get the points whenever you add a new place and it gets approved by the Kurators. So add lots of new, correct, accurate places if you want a chance to be a Kurator.

When do I get points and lose points?
You get points if you contribute good things, like when a place you added gets live, when a place you approve gets live, when a place you reject fails verification, etc.
You lose points if your contributions are not well received, like when a place you added fails verification, when a place you approve are rejected by others, when a place you reject gets approved by others, etc.
The amount of points is hidden to avoid users gaming the system as we are still making improvements to the algorithm.

Can I be dropped from being a Kurator?
Yes, it’s possible. You lose points when your new places gets rejected or when you verify incorrectly. If your total point goes below a secret threshold, you will not be a Kurator anymore. However you can still go back to be a Kurator again if you add correct places and get points.

Which places does a Kurator verify first?
Each Kurator gets to verify places that are near first. When there are no new places nearby, we offer them to verify places in other cities, and eventually other countries, to help out those in countries that don’t have many Kurators.

What to look for when verifying a place?
A good Kurator checks the validity of the place, accuracy of data, accuracy of the map location, and make sure there are no duplicates. There is a new tool at the bottom of the verification page to check for possible duplicates.

What do I do if I find a duplicate?
First, calm down and don’t panic. We a have a new report tool! Just go to one of the duplicate, and click ‘Report a duplicate’. You will need to type in the Place ID and the exact name of its duplicate. Your input will later be used by our system to merge the duplicates.
